HOW TO KEEP BLONDE HIGHLIGHTS FROM FADING
I've been highlighting my hair for as long as I can remember so of course I've tried many different shampoos and conditioners for blondes. My hair is naturally dark brown so keeping my color from turning brassy can be tough. About one month ago I had my highlights redone and after having my hair colored I’ve been using Redken’s Blonde Idol product line which is guaranteed to reduce brassiness.
Each Blonde Idol product is essential for keeping my hair vibrant. Usually I don’t have much of a love affair with shampoo but this is my new favorite! A great shampoo is essential for Blondes; this is where you’ll really notice a difference in seeing your color not fade. Harsh shampoos will strip and dull your highlights.
My favorite product is the custom tone conditioner. Before even trying it I knew I was going to love it. The concept itself was so exciting to me! The bottle is divided into 2 sides. You can adjust the amount of conditioner or color deposit based on how many weeks it’s been since you’ve had your hair highlighted. For the first week or 2 your color is fresh so all you really need is conditioner to keep your hair from feeling dry. As weeks go by you can increase the amount of color deposit and maintain a fresh gold tone.

The finished result! I was lucky enough to have my highlights done by Tracey Cunningham at the Cutler Salon in NYC. Tracey is a colorist to the stars and owns a famous salon in Beverly Hills. I felt so fortunate to be able to have my hair done by the same colorist as so many of my idols including Chrissy Teigen, Khloe Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and Chiara Ferragni!
The way Tracey colored my hair was very unique to any other salon I’ve ever been to. I felt like she really knew what would look the most flattering for my face. She gave me additional lighter highlights at the bottom of my hair to frame my face. I can visibly notice a difference in the quality of the Redken color used in my hair. My hair didn’t feel dry after and the color was very golden and natural looking.
This is a picture taken one month after having highlights! I was actually just staring down at the ends of my hair today and couldn't believe how golden my hair still was! Usually my color begins to gradually turn in as little as 1 week.
I knew being able to adjust what I’m putting in my hair as time passes from my salon visit would make a world of a difference! The custom tone conditioner really helps keep my hair a warm, golden color. When my hair looks less brassy I don't feel like I need to visit the salon as badly. With the increasing popularity of ombre and balayage my roots don’t bother me as much if my hair still has a sun kissed tone. The Blonde Idol products help me achieve and maintain this natural look without having to actually be in the sun.
